NEW YORK — New Year Eve is a great celebration of life, with lots of great music, fireworks and food.
But what if you’re in a hurry to get to the New Year party, and you don’t want to spend a lot of money?
Well, New Year 2018 is not as simple as you might think.
The new year is an annual event, not a holiday.
Instead, the festivities begin on the first Monday of February, when the sun sets over the Earth, and the sky turns a brilliant orange.
There are celebrations on the streets, in parks, on rooftops and at public places.
But the most important celebration for the new year are the festivities in the parks.
And New Year celebrations are always packed, so plan to spend the whole night out there, said Amy Ecker, director of the New York City Parks & Recreation Department.
You might want to dress up for New Year, Ecker said, as well as bring a blanket and a lawn chair.
“Don’t be shy,” she said.
“Everyone will be out celebrating.”
The National Park Service says the New Years Eve festivities are free, with the exception of a day when people are allowed to use designated restrooms, but they’re not required to do so.
The day is called New Years Day.
Ecker said it’s a great idea to have your own “lawn chair” to make sure your guests get to enjoy the festivities.
And, if you have to go out, bring a picnic blanket to stay warm and cool, Eker said.
New Year 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the park system in New York.
“It is a celebration that’s a joy to be a part of,” said Parks Commissioner Annika Gorman, a member of the National Parks Board.
“It’s a chance to go back to the way that it was, which was a day of freedom and opportunity for people to enjoy a peaceful holiday.”
