In a new book, former Obama White House official Daniel Friedberg writes that President Trump will go to “Paris” on his first foreign trip as president if he wants to “go to war.”
“Trump will have an easy time in Paris,” Friedberg says in his book “The Great Divide.”
“The only way Trump can go to France is if he’s determined to do so.
If he is determined to go, he will do it.”
Friedberg, who worked on President Obama’s campaign and served as his senior adviser on the Middle East and the Mediterranean, wrote the book in the wake of the November election.
He says he thinks Trump is a man who is “ready to go” to war against the Islamic State.
“If the president wants to do it, then he can do it,” Friedenberg says.
“And he can go.
He can go, and he’ll make the United States great again.”
Friedenberg was Trump’s senior adviser for Middle East policy during the 2016 campaign.
He was in charge of Middle East peace and security policy.
In a statement, the White House said Friedberg is a longtime friend.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from ABC News.
The book was released last month.
Friedberg served as the Obama White and Foreign Policy Advisor during the 2012 election cycle and also served as a senior adviser to President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign in 2008.
He’s currently a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
